From the 10th of April, until the 4th of September, I hiked on the Appalachian Trail. The A.T. is a 2,160 mile continuous footpath that runs over the crest of the Appalachian Mountain Chain.
The trail begins on Springer Mountain in Georgia and ambles its way north to Baxter Peak, on top of Mount Katahdin in Maine.
As you can probably see from the photographs on this site, I didn't set out to
document everything on film. I didn't want to see the entire trip through
a viewfinder. In fact, I had no camera at all until somebody gave me a
disposable somewhere after the Smoky Mountains. Eventually, as I came upon
and passed better and better scenery, I broke down and asked my parents to
send me a simple, yet surprisingly heavy, manual camera (Minolta X-9 w/ 50mm lens f1.7;
thanks again Jeanne). After that I was able to take at least some photos of
people I met and places I saw.
To make a long story short, these photographs do not represent the "highlights" of my trip or the Appalachian
Trail in general. They were taken when I had a camera, was moved to take a
picture, and was lucky enough to have the film survive my exposure, the trip
home via the USPS, and the Walgreens photo "lab". Hopefully, they give you
some impression of what certain sections of the trail look like.
